Root: A Storage Solution of Games and Expansion
Please support Sigismond0 by Liking/Boosting their Print on Printables.
This storage solution aims to get all main game content into the core ROOT box, with a focus on faction organization, component separation, and ease of use. You can fit all of this:
•
Root
•
Main Expansions
•
Riverfolk
•
Underground
•
Marauders
•
Homeland
•
Decks
•
Exiles & Partisans
•
Squires & Disciples
•
Extras
•
Vagabond Pack
•
Landmarks Pack
•
Resin Clearing Markers
•
Does not include Mechanical Marquise or Hirelings!
Unfortunately, sleeved cards and boxes on their spine (for ease of access and visibility of labels) means there is ~4mm of lid lift. I don't love it, but it's the best solution to fit everything in the box.
You can fit your maps and faction boards in a single expansion box (even better if you have the cardstock faction boards).
I have a separate solution for hirelings/landmarks using the Hirelings Box. Check that out! - https://www.printables.com/model/1211211-root-a-box-of-hirelings-and-landmarks-up-to-homela
This is designed with 91mm sleeves (e.g., Gamegenic). I've heard from some folks that taller 92.5mm sleeves (Dragon Shield) do not fit well
All factions have all of their components stored in one box with room for sleeved cards. Cards lay on the bottom to cover the hole, and you can push up to eject components without having to dump. Lids slide sideways into a dovetail and snap in when fully closed.
•
The wooden Riverfolk card offer is replaced with a collapsible magnetic version. Insert 8mmx3mm magnets into the slots mid-print for a snap-together solution or just leave them as they are.
•
Vagabond and Knaves are separated a little bit due to shared components
•
Vagabond box holds only the Vagabond reminder card, quests, and score/relationship tokens
•
Knaves box holds skunks, reminder cards, and acclaim/score tokens.
•
A shared components box holds starting items and Vagabond pawns/Knave leaders
•
Advanced Setup and Vagabond role/Knave leader cards are stored together for ease of drafting. There's enough room for landmark AdSet here as well.
Item storage requires support under the hinges. Insert a piece of 1.75mm filament to complete the hinge. Can lay out directly over the item slots on the board for ease of setup.
For resin clearing markers, put one of each rabbit/fox/mouse in each stack. This takes up less space and makes for less room for components to rattle around than the previous design. Holes on the bottom are for you to push up and eject the pieces.
For map components, the mountain map tunnel pieces slide in sideways like the faction box lids, holding them in place and keeping everything tidy. Similar for the pond.
There are a couple of variants available for folks who want somewhat different organization. I haven't test fit them all but they should work just fine.
•
Vagabond & Knaves Cards In Box
•
Moves Vagabond/Knave roles into their respective faction boxes. Larger boxes for those two factions, and a smaller AdSet box.
•
Replaces Knaves, Vagabond, and AdSet.
•
Landmarks Spacer
•
Print this in vase mode and you can fit all landmarks into the main box.
•
Replaces spacer.
•
Raft Spacer
•
If you are using my Hirelings box for landmarks, but want to keep the raft handy for Lake map play, this fits just that one piece into the main box.
•
Replaces spacer.
•
Big Pond
•
Don't like fiddly overdone organization? Put it all in one place with or without baggies.
•
Replaces Pond, map, items, tokens, clearings/Dice holders, spacer.
•
Thin Walls
•
The main models have 92mm internals, which can be a tight fit for some sleeves. I've added a variant that shaves off 0.5mm off of two walls to open them up to 93mm to allow 92 or even 92.5mm sleeves to fit better.
You should be able to do both the Big Pond and CIB Vagabond/Knaves if that suits you.
I've spent a lot of hours on this, and even though I think it's comprehensive I recognize that it won't fit every person's dream setup. I encourage community remixes!

•
Labels! Luminari font used on all labeled components. Reach/militant markings on faction boxes.
•
Snap-in lids! No more dumping pieces out because you held a box wrong.
•
Better item organization! A fold open tray goes straight from the box to the board, no sorting or pulling pieces out.
•
Better faction box fit! Medium box (cat/bird/lizard/badger/bat/vagabond) is slightly taller to help fit. Moles and Frogs now get an XL box. Knaves and Knaves/Vagabond shared components get smaller boxes.
•
Component organization! Map pieces (gorge/swamp) have their own tray. Ruins and their items are sorted/stacked for easy retrieval. Room for reminder tokens. Holds all six dice.
•
Options! No landmarks, all landmarks, or just the Ferry in the main box. Dedicated component storage or one big main box for the loose stuff. Vagabond/Knave cards in the faction boxes or with AdSet.
