Deluxe Chess Checkers Backgammon Hinged PIP Set

I wanted a true 3‑in‑1 travel game, a case that transforms into a chessboard , a checkers board , and a backgammon board . It needed to be hinged , print‑in‑place , and roomy enough to store every piece , including proper 8 mm regulation dice .

I searched MakerWorld. I searched Printables. I found nothing that met my expectations… so, I designed it myself.

🎯 The Design Goals

• A case that opens flat into a clean, aligned chessboard
• A full backgammon board on the reverse
• Internal space for all chess pieces, all checkers, and the dice
• Zero assembly , fully print‑in‑place
• Strong, stable pieces that feel great to play with
• A way to store the checkers and dice so they never go missing during a chess match

Every feature is intentional.

Everything prints in place:

• Checkers & dice: printed at 100% infill for weight and durability
• Chess pieces: first 50 layers at 100% infill to lower the center of mass and improve stability
• Knights & rooks: include simple, easy‑to‑remove supports for perfect overhangs
• Case: prints fully hinged and opens smoothly right off the bed

No assembly. No hardware. Just print and play.

This was the fun challenge: how do you keep the checkers and dice secure while the case is open for chess?

The answer became a tiny mechanical showpiece:

• Dice sit in individual secure pockets
• The dice pocket has its own micro‑lid
• That lid is locked in place by the sliding cover of the checker tray
• The checkers can be pushed out one at a time with a fingertip
• And the checkers double as checkers for the chessboard

It’s simple to use, but the mechanism is delightfully over‑engineered in the best way.

To make this set truly plug‑and‑print inside the MakerWorld app, I created six dedicated print profiles , each tuned for a specific part of the system. No guessing, no tweaking: just pick the profile and hit print.

• Chessboard + Backgammon Case: optimized for clean hinges, crisp board geometry, and smooth opening right off the bed
• Chess Pieces: includes the 50‑layer 100% infill base for stability and perfect balance
• Backgammon Checkers: full 100% infill for weight, feel, and durability
• 8 mm Dice: also 100% infill , sized to regulation and tuned for sharp edges

• Checkers and Dice Holder: The perfect way to ensure you do not misplace the checkers or the dice.

For the case I suggest using a Cool Plate Supertack to maximize the first layer adhesion. This is a large area print and you want to avoid warping (lifting of the corners from the build plate). If you use a Textured PEI plate, please wash it first with soap and warm water, dry it thoroughly and consider applying Bambulab liquid glue before printing.
