I have been using my Prusa XL almost daily since it arrived early may. One of the first things I made was a nozzle cleaning brushholder, for those cheap brass brushes. Although they worked ok, they were not perfect.

After seeing a video of another brand printer where someone used silicone brushes for nozzle cleaning, I decided to make something like that for my Prusa XL. This little block is attached onto the rear 3030 extrusion with a 12mm M4 hex bolt and a M4 hammer nut. For the brushes I've bought the silicone brushes used for the Bambu A1 . Not the A1 mini!

You will have to cut the brushes in half for them to fit onto the holder. They have a sticker backing that is very strong and adheres really well to the printed surface. I have been using this setup for a little over a month now and they still perform really well and I have not detected any wear or tear yet.

There is no need for extra gcode commands, because the nozzles will pass the brushes everytime a tool is either parked or picked up. Only thing you need to do is align the brushes with the tool path. For obvious reasons the cleaning will work best if the nozzle is at the filament required melting temperature!

Print settings:

0.25 layer height, 4 walls, 4 top/bottom layers, 20% grid infill

Hardware needed:

1x 12mm M4 Hex bolt + 1x M4 hammer nut for each brush holder
