Tokaido Coins and Box

This is my first product I feel is publishable.

These coins are for the board game Tokaido, but can be used as generic Japanese coins.

tl;dr

• The box holds 6 stacks of 9 coins each. It will fit the cardboard coins included in the game, but the file has two plates, one for the box and one for the coins.
• Plate 1 is the box. It can hold 54 coins, and has two pause layers where you can insert the magnets

• Plate 2 is 56 two color coins made to be as similar to the cardboard coins that come with the game as I could make them.

• This was printed on an A1 with an AMS Lite.

• Magnets required:
• Size: 10mm x 2mm round or 10mm x 10mm x 2mm square

The long version

This project started out with me trying to find a model for storage of board game components for Tokaido. My game box was getting pretty beat up from hauling it to different game day events. The box is very large while the actual game components are pretty small, so I wanted to find a way to consolidate.

The first print was one to hold all the coins. But due to consistency issues with the dimensions of the stamped cardboard, the coins didn't fit next to each other on the posts of the holder. So then I decided to make my own coins….

I'd seen some on the web, but they all printed rather poorly, with gaps all over the place. Also, I wanted a two tone coin to more match the look of the original without paint (then I ran out of the metallic brown silk PLA, but that is an issue for another day.) So I made a two tone coin model that would fit without issue.

But then I decided I really didn't like the fact that the coin holder could slide out at any time, dumping coins everywhere. So I decided to make a box with a friction lid aided by magnets. And after too many hours in Bambu Studio (I seriously need to learn a modern CAD) I had my box.

The magnets I had on hand were leftovers from another project. They were supposed to be 10mm round by 2mm thick, some were as thick as 2.5mm. The eight I used were all in the 2.15 - 2.25 range. The fit was a bit tight, but I didn't want to do a redesign just to account for an extra quarter millimeter (I should have.)

The box fits 54 coins of either the printed or the original cardboard. I've also included a plate for the coins themselves.

The coins are two color, but I feel the quality of the single color coins was a bit better, if monochromatic.

• The box is printed with:
• Bambu Labs Matte PLA.

• The coins are printed with:
• Elegoo Silk Bronze PLA (the copper color)

• JustMaker Silk Brn PLA (the burnished brass color)

The proper sized magnets for this would be 10mm (round or square) and 2.0mm to 2.1mm thick. Eight magnets are required.

As always with magnets, make sure you are facing them correctly. I put all of mine with the north poles facing inward.
