Thrrg, gazing steadily out on the engaging fleet, smiled to himself. "Perfect."
The aide froze, breathless. "Perfect, sir? Our long-range scanners are struggling to ghost their signature. If they catch us in the moon’s shadow, the crossfire will be—"
"I know exactly where they are," Thrrg interrupted, his voice like grinding stones. He didn't look back at the holotable.
On the array, his capital ships were not merely represented; they were elevated. While the enemy’s signatures blurred into a chaotic mess of sensor ghosts and overlapping icons on the main screen, Thrrg’s forces were layered with crystalline precision. His screens of Destroyers held the low-gravity well, while his Dreadnoughts occupied the "high ground" above the orbital plane, their broadsides perfectly aligned for a plunging fire.
"Space is an unforgiving bitch," Thrrg murmured, his eyes tracking a squadron of Argent strike wings screaming out of slipspace. “That fool Commander Zehron thinks that this is a game of shadow chess; his timing is impeccable, but his fleet composition is… lacking."
“Poor fool," his aide murmured.
Outside, the first flares of the engagement lit up the lunar dark. The Argent wings arrived expecting a disorganized mess of plastic and hull. Instead, they found a perfectly tiered wall of fire. Thrrg’s ships weren't bumping into one another in the crowded sector; they were organized in stacks, a vertical fortress that made the Argent’s traditional flanking maneuvers impossible.
"Tell the gunners to fire by the Tier-Alpha coordinates," Thrrg commanded. "We don't need to sweep the sector. We just need to look down."
As the first enemy destroyer bloomed into a white-hot explosion, Thrrg finally turned away from the window. The battle wasn't won by numbers, but by the commander who could actually see the board.
Twilight Imperium 4: Collapsible Fleet Keepers
These fleet keepers are the perfect addition to your game of Twilight Imperium 4! With magnetic legs that snap to the bottom and a handy lid to keep everything tidily together, help de-clutter your board and organize your fights. No more plastic floating from tile to tile ("Hey, was that destroyer on this tile or that one?"), no more having to pick up hordes of plastic to run space combat, no more keeping track of your ground force's locations between planet and space.
You'll need the following from this Amazon link. A 30 pack is plenty more than what you'll need. You'll need six 5x2mm magnets per fleet stand, and a little bit of super glue.
Load the magnets into the jig, same side down (Fig A).
Flip the jig over. Put a small dot of super glue on the bottom of the magnet. A fine tip applicator is recommended (Fig B).
Drop the jig into the dish, and use a non-ferrous rod (wood, brass, etc) to push the magnet out of the jig. Press firmly on the magnet for a few seconds to help the glue set (Fig C, Fig D)
Load a magnet into each of the legs. These take a bit of force to seat (Fig F) but will hold without super glue.
Your Fleet Stand is now complete!
Included is a counter stand that slips onto the side of the bowl for fighters or infantry counters. I use the following printable counter from CrispyW , which I find replaces the stacks and stacks of infantry/fighter counters from the game quite nicely. Combined with my fleet stand, you too can reduce the clutter and chaos of plastic, and get back into what makes Twilight Imperium amazing; conquering the galaxy!
