Steam Deck Cradle for JSAUX ModCase - with Spring-Loaded Cable Dock
Please support EddieCoast by Liking/Boosting their Print on Printables.
Hi it's EddieCoast with SteamDeckChop, you're going to be in a great mood all day!
There are a lot of good docks / cradles / holders / display stands for the Steam Deck out there, but almost none that accomodate the JSAUX ModCase (PC0104 version). I really liked the clean and elegant look of Collingall's Steam Deck Cradle , so I remixed it to hold a Steam Deck with JSAUX ModCase. (Much appreciation Collingall for uploading STEP files of your design, thank you!) There are two versions of this remix:
• modcasecradle_basic
• modcasecradle_basic_lowered
Unfortunately, Collingall's design features a central resting surface that conflicts with the slide-on attachment point and any accessories you may have mounted on the ModCase's back, so I changed the geometry of that back surface. On the bright side, if you were using CalliEcho's design to mount an airtag there, this cradle is compatible with that! Print the basic version if you want your Steam Deck to sit snugly inside (just like in Collingall's original design), or print the lowered version for a cradle that is easier to grab the Steam Deck from (the lowered version is pictured in white).
BUT THEN I saw LupusWorax's incredible design, the Steam Deck GAUSS Magnetic Docking Station ! LWC made a great model, and if you don't have a protective shell on your Steam Deck, or have the same kind they do, you should definitely check this design out. Unfortunately, it did not fit well with the JSAUX ModCase, so I was inspired to change the remixed design I already had to add a similar functionality. My design will hold the charging cable that came with the Steam Deck, and plug it in with an easy slap!
For the base, print either modcasecradle_dock or modcasecradle_docklowered as the base part, and modcasecradle_lever to attach as the release lever. You will need to buy some hardware:
• 2x M3 screws, no longer than 18mm
• 1x spring, 5mm OD 40mm long, I used these Uxcell springs
If you want the charging cable to exit out the back (cleaner but a more permanent solution, and designed for the official Steam Deck charging brick) print modcasecradle_cablehead_back and modcasecradle_cablehead_backcover , insert the Steam Deck power Cable connected to a JSAUX Right-Angle USB-C Adapter , and lock the cable in with the cover part. If you plan to leave the official Steam Deck charging cable at home permanently attached to the dock, this is the option for you.
If you want the charging cable to exit out the side (easier to disconnect the charging cable, and wider cable compatibility), then print modcasecradle_cablehead_side and slide a JSAUX Flat Right-Angle USB-C Adapter into it. If you want the ability to easily disconnect the charging cable, or plan to use various USB-C cables with this dock, this is the option for you.
Whichever cable head you pick,
• insert the spring into the bottom round hole of the cable head
• slide it into the arm of the dock
• use the M3 screws to attach the lever and lock the cable head in place
• test to make sure the USB-C adapter goes smoothly into the Steam Deck's charging port when you push the cable head down
The friction of the USB-C cable in the port should hold the cable head down, and a tap of the release lever should disconnect the cable (though you might have to hold the Steam Deck down when you disconnect, on occassion the cable head pulls the Steam Deck up with it).
I tried my best to take good measurements and design good clearances, but I can't guarantee that everything will line up perfectly with your setup like it does with mine, you may have to do some alterations or post-processing to get the mechanism working smoothly.
The STL files are just for visualizing the model on Printables, download the STEP files to print.
Enjoy your stylish and functional Steam Deck dock / cradle / holder / display stand / slapchop!
