I wanted a way to display and organize small pieces for board games or projects but didn't want to print a new organizer for every game or deal with baseplates. So I designed this as a quickly configurable “grid” that snaps together with magnets. It's inspired by Zack Freedman's Gridfinity system, but it doesn't require a baseplate for faster rearranging. It's also not even compatible with Gridfinity currently, but I might make a version that is if people really want it, or would be happy to see a remix.

Assembly

Each 1x1 box can hold 8 6x3mm magnets, but standard Gridfinity 6x2mm magnets should fit as well. You can also adjust the parameters to fit any custom magnet size. By default the magnet tolerances are also pretty tight so that they are press fit, but you can adjust the tolerance for your printer if they're not fitting, maybe gluing them as necessary.

When inserting magnets make sure that the polarity is correct before inserting each one! The boxes should fit together on all sides as long as the little notches are all pointing in the same direction.

Customizing

The fusion360 file has modifiable parameters to play with. You can change the individual box length, width, and height, shell width, and magnet tolerances and still have them be compatible with each other as long as they all have the same grid_unit size.
