Wingspan - Three-Wide Card Tray With Lid (v2)

This three-wide card tray is designed to be used in play, as well as to safely store your cards in the original wingspan box.

The height of the card tray is meant to allow for the presence of 7 player boards (Asia, plus base/oceana boards) in the box, and still have room for score pads, and various cardboard pieces and rules.. The expected layout of the box will accommodate 8 total card-stacks. You will need 2 three-wide card holders, and a double wide card holders to fit 8 stacks of cards in the original card box.

This design was inspired by several different card trays but ultimately I designed this one from scratch. I did not care for the many magnet style lids I saw and tried, but loved the utility of the three-wide tray design that doubles as the face-up card display surface. I decided to go with a slotted lid which provides a very stable platform (even when half open) for the displaying of the face up cards.

Version 2 of this design is increases tray size slightly to possibly accommodate sleaved cards, while still allowing for the box layout as pictured.

Unsleeved Card Capacity:

At this height, I can just barely accommodate Base Game, Oceana, European and Asian bird cards into two 3-wide card trays. The Goal Cards and Automata cards from base game and these three expansions will then fit into a two-wide card tray (See link below, as well as photos for box layout)

Sleeved Cards:

This card tray width and height is designed to accommodate sleeved cards, though depending on your sleeves, the tray may need to be stretched front to back slightly - an increase like this would NOT effect the geometry of the slotted lid.

Likewise if you have all four of the expansions and sleeved cards, you can make the trays taller, but you will have to eliminate the base boards or manuals and score sheets, etc, to accommodate this increase, or live with the resulting box lift.

The Lid:

The lid is a friction slotted lid, designed to be halfway open during game play, allowing people to draw cards from the tray and have the faceup cards on the top of the lid.

Printing:

The tray and lid CAN be printed on an Bambu A1Mini, if you orient the tray and lid on a side, though you will need supports to do so, including supports for the inset birds.

I printed mine this way, though while printing this way it can be difficult to get a clean print without distortion, and the tight friction lid makes distortion a problem.

Given the stresses on the friction slot lid, I'd recommend a Basic PLA instead of a more brittle Matt PLA but YMMV.

I've included the birds STL created by @JeremyWhite_380692 which I used to make the indented birds on the lid, in case you wish to use them to create a multi-color lid. He created them for this purpose in this remix of different card tray.
