Model Description
A round variation of a classic board game!

This is a (somewhat) travel sized and circular version of the board game “Backgammon”. It consist of the board itself, a set of 15 checkers per player, 2 dice per player, 1 doubling cube and a storage cup that can hold all the small bits and attaches to the bottom of the board with a twisting motion. The “bar” on a normal backgammon board is represented by the 7 dots in the middle of the board, also with spots for magnets.

The board is 250mm in diameter and is designed to be printed in one piece on the build plate with an AMS. This means that it will not fit on an A1 mini. Sorry.

This game is designed with magnets in mind but there is a separate version of the board and checkers which are solid if magnets are not desired.

The design uses 4 colors: a base color, a board background color and a color for each player. The board print has 7 color changes in total.

It functionally plays just like normal Backgammon and if you're looking for rules, they can for example be found here or all over the internet.

-IMPORTANT- if going with the magnet version:

The board and the checkers are designed to have the magnets completely embedded in them and thus those prints have pauses in them during which you have to put in the magnets manually while the print is still on the bed and then resume the print. The board is printed upside down and the checkers are printed right way up WHICH MEANS you have to put the magnets in one orientation into the board and the opposite orientation into the checkers!

I used, and recommend, the round magnets available on Bambu Lab's Maker's Supply. The size is 10mm in diameter and 2mm thick. These magnets are very strong (maybe even a little too strong) but every other magnet that I've tried from various other Chinese sources were all very weak and the sizes were slightly inconsistent.

  • The game board will pause at layer 14 which is about 2hr30m into the print, give or take 10-20 minutes depending on print speed.
  • The checker sets will pause at layer 25 which is about 20m into the print.
  • MAKE SURE that every magnet you put into the board is in the same orientation AND that every magnet you put into the checkers are in the opposite orientation from what you used for the board!
  • Magnet size is 10x2mm.
  • 157 Magnets are needed in total. 120 for the points on the board, 7 for the “bar” dots and 30 for the checkers.
