HIVE EXTREME with Gameboard and Box

HIVE is one of our absolute favourites for two players. It is very entertaining and offers a lot of strategic and tactical depth. Every game is different and many a game that was thought to be lost was turned round at the end. HIVE is simply fun.

In the end, I simply had to rework the game and design an additional game board with a storage box. The game can also be played without a game board... a flat surface (e.g. a table) is completely sufficient.

The version provided here (HIVE EXTREME) contains all the figures from the base game and the official expansions (Mosquito, Ladybug and Pillbug) as well as two fan expansions (Dragonfly and Praying Mantis).

There are still a large number of fan expansions. I will add them to this version in due course.

I printed the game board and the storage box with an FDM printer. I printed the game pieces with a resin printer. I used white and black resin for this. Of course, the play figures can also be printed with an FDM printer. To paint the figures, I simply used airbrush paint (liquid) and let it run carefully into the recesses with a brush.

Fan expansion „Dragonfly“:

The dragonfly pieces can be added to a standard Hive set and can be placed the same way as other pieces.
A dragonfly is moving one field ahead in any direction and then one field forward-left or forward-right. It is also allowed to land on top of another animal. Starting its move from an occupied field, it is taking the animal underneath with it but only if the landing field is free and not occupied by another animal. Otherwise the dragonfly is moving alone.
Only the animal directly under the button of a dragonfly can be transported.

Exceptions:

The dragonfly itself cant be transported away by the opponents dragonfly.

The transportation of an animal is forbidden if that separates the hive into two or more pieces.

Dragonfly & Mosquito:
Playing with the mosquito and the dragonfly, the mosquito can adapt the abilities of the dragonfly, too, if placed next to it (not ABOVE it!).
Also mosquitos cant transport dragonflies.

Fan Expansion „Praying Mantis“:

The Praying Mantis is deadly. The Praying Mantis limited in movement like the Beequeen; she can only move one space at a time in any direction. But instead of moving to an open space, it can jump onto another animal once. This can be an enemy animal or one of its own. Both the praying mantis and the jumped figure are then permanently removed from the game. Please note that the rule also applies here that the swarm may not be separated at the end of the turn.
