The Lord of the Rings: Fate of the Fellowship Insert

This is an insert for The Lord of the Rings: Fate of the Fellowship board game. This keeps the original cardboard insert but adds boxes to organize the components that otherwise would be stored in baggies loose in the box. This insert is not compatible with sleeved cards.

The tokens box with the shadow troops is designed to be used next to the board, organizing the tokens and troops supplies that are not stored on the board directly. The other boxes hold components that are placed on the board during setup and can be stored back in the box to save table space after setup.

The two troop boxes have lids to keep the components secure, inspired by the fantastic lid locking mechanism from @DrFeeelgood for their Marvel Champions Sorting Boxes . These provide just the right amount of locking friction to keep the box securely locked but easy to open for me, at least with Prusament PLA on my Prusa MK3S. You may need to adjust the width scaling ever so slightly (probably fractions of a percent) on the lid models to work well with your printer and filament. For those that do not want to mess with tuning the lid locking mechanism, I provided alternative models for these boxes without the locking pins.

The pictures should make it clear how the insert should be used, but here's a detailed walkthrough of each model:

• CardBracket: Holds the cards and prevents them from banging into the dice tower. Small cards are stored underneath the large cards. There's a gap on the right side to be able to lift out the card decks. I used 10% gyroid infill when printing this model.

• Characters: Holds the Eye token and all the characters. Stored in the inside gap of the dice tower base.

• DiceBox: Holds the dice, the thread rate marker, the hope marker, and the solo marker. Stored in the shorter cardboard box slot in the original box's insert next to the friendly troops box. There is room to store the dice tower cardboard topper (Eye of Sauron) in this same cardboard box slot.

• FriendlyTroopsBox: Holds the troops of each of the four friendly factions. Stored in the shorter cardboard box slot in the original box's insert next to the dice box. There is room to store the dice tower cardboard topper (Eye of Sauron) in this same cardboard box slot. Print this model for a box with a locking lid mechanism, or print FriendlyTroopsBoxNoLock for a non-locking version.

• FriendlyTroopsBoxNoLock: Print this model instead for the friendly troops box without a locking lid mechanism.

• FriendlyTroopsLid: Lid for either the locking or non-locking box. The pictures show where I manually changed the filament color for the last 1mm (5 layers at 0.2mm layer height) to help the lettering pop and make it obvious which side of the box slides open.

• TokenBox: Holds the symbol tokens and shadow troops. Stored in the longer cardboard box slot in the original box's insert. Print this model for a box with a locking lid mechanism, or print TokenBoxNoLock for a non-locking version.

• TokenBoxNoLock: Print this model instead for the token box without a locking lid mechanism.

• TokenBoxLid: Lid for either the locking or non-locking box. The pictures show where I manually changed the filament color for the last 1mm (5 layers at 0.2 layer height) to help the lettering pop and make it obvious which side of the box slides open.

The models in the pictures were printed with a 0.4mm nozzle at 0.2mm layer height with Prusament Galaxy Black PLA. Jessie Premium PS Red and Jessie Premium Tree Green PLA were used for the lid colors. Most models were printed with either 0% infill or 10% lightning infill except the card bracket as noted above.
