Corps of Discovery Insert / Organizer for Ultimate and Deluxe Edition

This is an insert / organizer for Corp of Discovery Ultimate / Deluxe Editions (the larger box that is about 85 mm tall, not the shorter retail box). It supports premium sleeves (Dragon Shield on the large cards and Gamegenic Prime on the small cards in the photos), vertical storage, has no lid lift, and was designed to aid setup and teardown.

This insert provides the following benefits over the stock insert:

• Better support for premium card sleeves

• Easier access to resources, with larger wells and individual locations for all resources. As shown in the photos, you can organize your resources in path priority order.

• Easier identification of components used in multiple modules via a unified setup component tray. Wells are labeled with the module name, and several slots are dedicated to components that overlap multiple modules.

• Substantial room for additional maps while maintaining the ability to store the game vertically.
• Variable-height spacers can grow or shrink based on how many maps you own.

• Set the spacer_height variable in the provided OpenSCAD spacer files and export your .stl file. 14 mm is the default height and should work well for most people with the maps that come with the Ultimate Edition of the game.

• Provides an in-game tray to hold the large stack of influence cards in the Maldonado module so it will not topple.

Below is a video discussing some of the design considerations and showing how it all goes together. The photos also show how to layer all the trays, game boards, and manuals in the boxes.

To achieve the insert as shown, print each tray once. The one exception is the “Optional Tray,” which you can choose not to print depending on the selected layout. There are two primary ways to arrange the trays along the right side of the box. As shown in the photos and video, if you place the Maldonado and Sun Disc trays in the middle with a card tray on either side, the main board will be held in place without the need for the optional tray. However, the card trays do not extend to the top of the box. The cards are tall enough that if they were to slide out of the slots a bit when the box is stored vertically, they would just hit the top of the box and would fall back down into the slots once the box is horizontal again. There is little risk that the cards could be damaged. However, if you want to ensure that the cards are fully constrained in the slots, you can place the two card trays next to each other and then place the optional tray on top of them. This also provides a bit of extra room to store other components if you happen to have something custom you are using with the game. The last two photos show this alternative layout.

This insert does not have a location for the cardboard overlay tiles that held the components in place in the insert provided by the manufacturer. With the labels on the trays in this 3D printed insert, there was no need for those tiles.

I have included the original OpenSCAD files in case anyone wants to improve on the design for non-commercial purposes.

Update Nov. 7, 2025: The large spacer I had originally posted was shorter than intended. I replaced it with a spacer having the correct height.
