Obsession Victorian Box Insert / Organizer - Fits Playmat, Rules Compendium, and All Expansions to Date

This is an insert / organizer for the Obsession Victorian Box (big box) with the playmat, consolidated rules compendium, and all the released expansions through Characters (but see the excluded, mostly redundant items listed below). It supports premium sleeves (Gamegenic Prime shown in the photos), vertical storage, has no lid lift, and was designed to aid setup and teardown. A primary goal of this insert was to provide flexibility so you can easily set up and store the game based on your preferred way to play. For this reason, you can easily separate out promo cards and tiles, split out the base game components from the rest, or organize the components in many other ways depending on your preferred setup. This is a completely new insert, so none of the trays from my prior Obsession inserts will work with this one (except for the trays inside the family boxes).

There is a video overview below, but here is a listing of some features.

Adjustable card tray for holding the casual and prestige guests. You can divide the cards how you would like. For example, if you only want to play with the base game cards, you could place all the expansion cards behind the divider. Or you could print two dividers for each type of guest and create a buffer between them. I like to keep all the guests mixed together (with the exception of a few promos), and then you can discard your cards behind the divider. It helps keep the table neat during play.

Two trays to hold the improvement tiles with a trough to hold discarded cards and/or tiles. You can organize these to quickly find tiles if you are using the Market Butler app. I have organized them by type (service, estate, prestige, essentials, and sporting), and I have a separate slot where I place the monuments. I think it is easy enough to find the tile you are looking for without further organizing them, but you could also organize them by prestige level, tile sorting number, or alphabetically.

Card holders for the courtship theme, VP, and objective cards. I opted to support the larger theme cards instead of the tiny ones, although you could use the smaller cards instead. I also opted only to hold the new Objective deck that came with the Characters expansion. It is intended to replace the other two objective decks, so there is no space in the insert for those other decks if you sleeve your cards.

A money tray that goes directly on the game board or playmat. It supports the official metal coins, although you could instead fit the Nanty Narking metal coins or the cardboard coins.

Labeled card holder for the starter guests, dowager’s exiles, Fairchilds, solo cards, milestones, and reference cards. This tray also holds the trays for the VP, theme, and objective cards. Those smaller card trays tend to slide a bit and fall into one another when left unconstrained, so this tray has a slot that holds them all neatly.

A servant tray that separates the servants by type. This tray also holds the new Characters meeples (dowager, reverend, and constable).

•

A tray for the cooperative cards and promos. My thanks to my friend Hextra for asking about a way to separate the promos, which I think improved the insert.

Family box organizers to bring some order to the components within each of the family boxes. The boxes hold the regular family members, distinguished family members, starting improvement tiles (including extra starting improvement for Wessex), starting servants, reputation markers, reminder tokens, and family-specific starting components (e.g., 300 pounds for the Ponsonby family).

There are a few components that are either outdated or I do not use them, so they do not fit in the box without adding lid lift. They include:

The base and Upstairs, Downstairs objective decks. They are replaced by the Characters objective deck.

•

Outdated or superseded tiles (however, there is plenty of room in the improvement tile holders to store extra tiles if you prefer to keep the older/extra versions for some reason).

•

Original reference sheets and rulebooks, which are now replaced by the consolidated rules compendium.

•

Original game boards, which are now replaced by the playmat in the original playmat box.

•

All original internal boxes except for the new playmat box and the original family boxes.

•

The score sheets. If you are using the Market Butler app already, you could also use the BG Stats app to tally scores. Or you could laminate one of the score sheets.

To achieve the insert as shown, print each tray the number of times specified in the file name (e.g., print two of the improvement tile trays) and one of everything else. For the servant tray, choose either the one-piece option if your printer is large enough, or the split option to glue together using the built-in alignment features. All other trays should fit on a 250 x 210 bed (like an MK4S), although two of them need to be oriented diagonally to fit. And if your printer is smaller than 250 x 210 on the diagonal, I also posted split versions of the two other larger trays. The photos and video show how to layer everything in the box.

I have included the original OpenSCAD files in case anyone wants to improve on the design for non-commercial purposes. However, if you remix a portion, please post only the remixed portion and point back to my listing here for everything else.

Edit May 15, 2026 : I added split versions of the large card/bag tray and the estate organizer tray. The single-piece versions are identical to the original versions I posted.
