The NP-Class predecessors to this starship were an effective stopgap measure to protect Earth’s burgeoning Cargo Service in the early days of warp travel. But as work continued on the ambitious NX-Class Survey Cruisers and their complex Warp 5 engine, United Earth pressured Starfleet to expand interstellar infrastructure, leading to the development of these NV-Class cruisers.

The NV-Class Cruiser is equipped with an improved version of these communications buoys, which have been meticulously tuned for use in space combat by enhancing communications between allied ships.
