Rats of Wistar Player Board Overlay

This player board overlay is designed for the Cranio Creations edition of Rats of Wistar .
It fits over the original player board and helps keep all the tokens and wooden pieces securely in place if the board gets bumped or moved.

Rats of Wistar is one of my favorite games, and I'm really happy with how this overlay turned out. I hope other players will enjoy using it too!

Each overlay is printed in two parts and simply placed over the original player board. The two sections connect loosely with a dovetail joint, keeping them aligned while still making the overlay easy to assemble and remove.

I've made two versions: one with only the necessary openings and another with a few little rats scurrying across the board. 🐀🐾

No glue, magnets, or additional parts are required — the rats have enough engineering skills of their own. 🧀

The included print profiles have been tested with:

• Bambu PETG Translucent Clear (32101)
• Anycubic PLA Translucent Clear

Other transparent or translucent filaments will probably work as well, but the included profiles have been specifically optimized and tested with these two materials.

The print profiles are designed to achieve as much transparency as possible with FDM printing. Please keep in mind, however, that FDM-printed transparent filament will always remain somewhat milky rather than becoming completely clear like glass or acrylic.

See the photos for a realistic impression of the transparency. The overlay shown with the red player pieces is printed in Bambu PETG Translucent Clear , while the overlay shown with the blue player pieces is printed in Anycubic PLA Translucent Clear .

For the photos showing the version with the rat details, I tweaked the print settings even further to improve transparency. These overlays were also printed in PLA. The improved settings have now been applied to all included print profiles.

The included print profiles use settings specifically chosen to improve transparency.

The overlay is printed with 100% infill . Air gaps between the extrusion lines make transparent filament appear cloudier, so a completely solid print gives a better result.

A relatively large layer height and line width are also used to reduce the total number of extrusion lines and layers. Each additional layer line scatters light and reduces the transparency of the finished print.

For the best results, I recommend using a smooth build plate . Make sure to clean the build plate thoroughly before printing. This is a large, flat object with a significant contact area, so a clean plate and good bed adhesion are especially important.

Rats of Wistar is a four-player game. For a complete set, print four overlays . Since each overlay consists of two parts, this means printing four copies of each section.

I hope these overlays help keep everything neatly in place — especially when someone bumps the table or, like me, needs to lean across it to read those cards. After all, the rats may cause enough chaos on their own. 😄🐀
