Overall, the design hasn't really changed from the original except in one key way. The original design was 14u tall as that was just tall enough for the cards to fit under the lid. But some sleeves ended up not fitting well, meaning that I had to make the lid with a flat design to make more space inside. Also, the dividers couldn't really pop out the top of the cards for the same reason. So, the v2 design is now 15u tall to accommodate better dividers, more sleeve brands and better stackability. If there is a demand for 14u tall cases with the other revisions I've made, please let me know in the comments and I'll make it up.

Other requests have come from the comments including adding magnet holes on the bottom. They're the default gridfinity size which should be 6x2mm I believe… I didn't change the settings in the generator. The divider spacing is wider, but with a wider opening at the top to make it easier to insert dividers correctly. I added two more divider styles, but the v1 dividers will still work. And if you don't use a lid, you can use the v2 dividers in the v1 trays. The v1 lids should also be compatible with v2 trays, but the v2 lids won't fit on v1 trays.

I'm in the process of building a cube for Magic the Gathering and I wanted a place to store them before the booster boxes I have. I went looking for what is considered “good cube storage” and found random cases, some with removable trays, some with large spaces and dividers. Then I remembered Gridfinity and the modularity of its storage system including the ability to grab any box, drawer, or whatever, plunk down a grid and store away. I thought this would be perfect for cube, or any storage really, but I was surprised to find a lack of options. So I made them myself.

The design is super basic with a few elements that worked well. First, the boxes are 14u (as I learned there is a standard gridfinity unit of height) high and the half-height dice boxes are 7u. There are divider slots every 3mm with an interior taper to keep cards or the dividers from getting caught on the edge. The card storage space is 92mm tall, so it should fit any sleeved cards and still allow the boxes to be stacked.

You may be able to fit a few more or less depending on your sleeves, but I was able to test with the dividers some points. The 3x2 box can hold 8 “booster packs” of either 20 single sleeved or 15 double sleeved cards. The 2x2 box can hold 6 booster packs with some extra space.

Good question, and here's my answer. These trays should be more functional than interesting, so I tried to make them as flexible as possible to handle a wide variety of use cases. You can throw them in a big box, and they'll interlock and stack. Take out the trays you want to use, store away the ones you don't. Organize them by colors and location in your storage space, or just stack them up on your desk.

What I think can be interesting and stylish is the storage systems, like a rugged carry box, or a lightweight shell. Maybe you want a long, tall box, or a short, wide box. Or maybe a double-decker cube box that you can carry with you. Or maybe you just want a drawer system that you can keep the cards in on your desk. Looking at all the Gridfinity storage solutions, there's so much inspiration out there, and I'm planning to make a few based on my other deck box designs, i.e. a chocobo/moogle/tonberry/MTG mana symbol/etc. travel box. I might also make friction fitting lids so that you can easily take them with you, but that also means you have the lids to carry around while you play…

YES PLEASE! This is a project that I want to spend some time developing. If you have a niche case and want certain size trays in the same theme, let me know! There are the limitations of Gridfinity, as I'm following the standard sizes, but there are options too, like magnets and labels which could be added. I didn't do either for this design as I didn't feel they were necessary for the design. But if you want something, let me know and I'll make it in a compatible way so that all the trays will work together.

And as a side note, the reason the cards are vertical instead of horizontal like most commercial boxes is due to the Gridfinity size. 2 squares are 82mm wide, and card sleeves are about 92mm, meaning that I would have to use three squares horizontally with about 34mm of wasted space as opposed to vertical card sleeves being 66mm wide leaving only 16mm which only becomes less noticeable when you add the dividers.
