All new Version 2, a Completely different latching mechanism inspired by user Mr FuFu. I modified his solution and instead of basically forcing two nubs passed each other as in the old design there is a graceful piece that bends and snaps in place. This version also scales a bit better. Though unfortunately the latch is one size no matter now big you make the box. the Scad fie is here so you can modify it as you like. I'll probably make the latch size configurable so you can decide the size you want.

I am mildly obsessed with a good box that has a lid that can latch and unlatch easily. I finally got a good sliding lid. This lid has two small nubs on the edge of the rails that snap into the guides. It gives a very satisfying click when closed. The red box in the pic was one is a super small but was used to tweak the design (I must have printed 10 of them). The final one I used like a fidget spinner and open/closed it 200-300 times. It does wear down a bit but was still quite functional. Probably after 1000 it might wear out the nubs.

There are 5 choices for lid design, Solid, Hex, Web, and Diamond, Fancy

I primarily use this for board game inserts so to me the outside dimensions are important. Unfortunately I went with being able to configure multiple internal compartments so you'll have to do math to figure out the external dimensions

X dimension: Sum of X compartments + Walls (# of walls is compartments + 1)
Y dimension: Sum of Y compartments + 7.2mm + Interior walls (# of walls is compartments - 1)

On the Y direction the exterior wall size is fixed to accommodate the rails.

Its designed to print without supports, You printer will need to handle a 45 degree overhang over 2.4mm.

This file can be used to generate the terraforming mars resource tray that i have as a separate thing, though the other design came first and then I decided to make it parameterizable.

Edit: Fixed an issues with the "fancy" pattern.
Edit2: Fixed an issue with printed height being 1.2 mm shorter than specified.

I'm slightly obsessed with a good box that has a lid. They are surprising hard to get right. This box has a slide on lid and there are a couple of very small nubs that make it snap into place. The benefit of this one is you can have multiple bins as you don't have to squeeze the sides. And of course you have a choice of differ patterns.
