Acquire - Replacement Stock Certificate Game Cards

These are replacement hotel stock certificate cards for the classic board game, Acquire . Acquire was invented by the legendary game designer Sid Sackson . It was originally published by 3M in 1964, and was later published by Avalon Hill, and others. The original version of the game has been out of print for decades, and is mostly kept by enthusiasts and collectors. If you have one of the original games, and can no longer play it because of lost or damaged stock certificate cards, this model is for you.

Acquire involves 7 different “hotel chains,” each of which issues up to 25 stock certificate cards. The chains are named American, Continental, Festival, Imperial, Luxor, Tower and Worldwide. Later versions of the game changed some of these names. But these replacement cards use the original names. In order to play the game properly, you need 175 stock certificate cards (25 for each chain). This model includes a print plate with a single card, and a separate print plate with 8 cards.

As a bonus, I am also including a print plate with the colored hotel chain tiles. You only need one per chain, and they are the same colors as the cards. So it makes sense to print them when you print the stock certificate cards.

These cards are pretty close to the standard size of playing cards (like for poker) that you typically find in America. They are 63 mm x 88 mm. The original Acquire cards are a bit smaller. So if you just need a card or two, these replacement cards won't be a perfect match for the rest of your original cards.

Unlike many other card games, complete secrecy about the cards you hold is less important in Acquire. Every card issued for the Festival chain, for example, is exactly the same. The number of cards that you hold for each chain is much more important for game play.

Each card is 6 layers thick, with the first layer having a 0.1 mm layer height, and the remaining layers having a 0.08 layer height. So the total thickness is 0.5 mm per card. This makes the cards very usable, and quite comparable to a standard card deck, just a bit thicker. If printed in PETG, as intended, they will be very durable and waterproof.

These cards are not 100% opaque when viewed from the back. But they are pretty close. This is because the cards are printed with one black layer that does a lot to limit bleeding through. These cards were made with my Custom Game Cards model that you can find here .

A complete print profile is included. But if you want to DIY, I have included separate stl files for both the base card, and for the colored portion of the card. In Bambu Studio, the colored portion would be loaded as a modifier to the base card. Both the base card and the colored portion should be flipped upside down, with the colored portion printed first. I adjusted the modifier to a -0.18 mm Z position, which allows the text to be flush with the surface of the card when the cards are printed upside down. The modifier is 0.18 mm thick. This means the first two layers will be printed in two colors. One layer is a bleedthrough screen, printed in black, and the remaining layers are white.

This is a three-color print that very much benefits from the AMS. If you print only one card at a time, the print profile includes 6 filament changes and a total flush volume (waste) of 1.36 grams of filament. But if you print the other plate that includes 8 cards, you get the same amount of waste. So it is much more efficient to print 8 at a time. A small price to pay for one of the world's great board games!
