Tuned for large, flat backgammon inserts that print cleanly and stay as flat as possible on Bambu Lab printers. • Printer: Bambu P1S / X1 / A1 / H2 series (or similar) • Nozzle: 0.4 mm • Material: PLA / matte PLA recommended (PETG or CF PETG also work with adjusted temps) • Layer height: 0.2 mm • Walls: 2 • Infill: 20% (cubic – these are basically flat panels) • Supports: Off (prints flat on the bed) • Build plate: Smooth PEI for a clean “glass” surface, or textured if you want a grippier look Orientation • Print flat as provided, with the nice face down on the build plate. The visible playing surface is the first layer, so first-layer tuning matters more than top-surface ironing here. Speed & warping notes • Speeds are kept moderate/slow so the large, thin panels stay consistent and don’t get wavy. Surface quality • Since the visible face is the bottom/first layer, focus on: • good Z-offset, • slower first layer, • consistent bed leveling. • If you want ultra-smooth inserts, use a clean smooth PEI or other glossy plate; for a more subtle, tactile finish, a textured or CF-pattern plate looks great. Print two inserts as needed to complete the board.

Model Description

I think of these as the “skin” of the Lux Backgammon Kit – the plates that drop into the frame and define the look and feel of the playing surface.

These board inserts are sized to fit the Backgammon Board Frame – Lux Kit and give you a clean, flat surface for the points, artwork, and colorway of your choice. They also help hide the pockets and structure underneath and make the whole board feel more cohesive when it’s open on the table.

I’ve tuned the thickness and geometry through multiple iterations so they:

sit snugly in the frame
stay flat once cooled
feel solid but not overly heavy

The visible side is intended to be the first layer printed against the build plate, so you can get that glassy/satin look from a smooth PEI, or a textured look if you prefer textured/CF plates. Logos, words, or simple art printed face-down work really well here.

Design Notes

Sized to drop cleanly into the frame pockets with a light friction fit. Depending on your printer and filament tolerances, it may require a drop of glue or two to hold them, or you can tune with a test print to get them just right.
Flat panels, optimized to print face-down for the best visible surface.
Thin enough to keep weight down, thick enough not to feel flimsy.
Great candidate for themed sets – you can print multiple insert sets in different colors/designs and swap them into the same frame.

Feel free to customize: different base colors, contrasting points, subtle logos, or even seasonal “skins” for the same frame.
