Chess boxes with integrated chessboard

These boxes are a perfect complement to NTX9's Organic Chess 2021 chess pieces.

The trays that he designed are changed into boxes with lids that can be assembled into a full 8x8 chess board, so you can have everything that you need to play in one convenient package.

How to print:

• There are two separately modeled versions: 100% scale and 88% scale. The latter fits onto the Prusa Mini build plate while conserving the correct tolerances, and requires printing the chess pieces at the same scale for them to fit. You can change the scale as you wish, but don't go too far from the originals, or the tolerances between the parts might become too tight or too loose.

• Print the boxes in the colour of your choosing. If you are not using NTX9's Organic Chess 2021, use chess_box_empty.stl instead of the default one.

• Print the boards and the connectors with 0.2mm layer height and a colour change at 2mm . You can add another colour change in the middle to match the colour of the box on the bottom of the lids.

• You need 2 of each board types (Board_1 and Board_2) and at least 4 connectors. I recommend printing extra ones, especially if you are printing this set as a present for somebody, as they are quite easy to misplace.

• There is a place for the connectors in each of the boxes, which are big enough for 6-8 connectors between the two of them.

How to use:

• Each pair of boards assembles into one lid. Flip one of them upside down and turn it 90 degrees. This should allow the raised fields (white in my case) to interlock with each other and then you can slide the lids into the boxes.

• To assemble the field, put the connectors into their places, respecting the colours. If the fit is tight, it might be easier to push the boards onto the connectors, instead of the other way around.

The boxes on the photos are printed in the beautiful Azure Film Cork Glitter filament, which I can totally recommend. I used a hardened 0.6mm nozzle when printing with it to avoid clogging. You are, of course, free to choose any other filament. :)

Step and Fusion 360 files are included, so feel free to do any modifications you want. Fair warning: Fusion 360 gets very slow working with them, since I did not sufficiently reduce the number of faces from the original mesh.
