Whirling Witchcraft Organizer

An organizer for the underrated Whirling Witchcraft board game. It's designed for easy setup with everything ready to just go after shuffling a few cards.

You will need:

• 8 of the bit boxes (2 green, 2 red, 2 blue, 1 black, and 1 white)

• 1 card box

• 1 card box lid

• 5 cauldrons (amazingly designed by Mnemic at https://www.printables.com/model/165983-cauldron-for-whirling-witchcraft )

The main colors are split between two sets of bit boxes so it's easier to spread around the table; and the side-by-side storage in the box allows for easily taking them in and out as the middle forms a "handle" of sorts (see photos).

You can store the arcana tracker tokens for each player in their cauldron.

The card lid has holes in it to make it easy to remove from the existing cardboard insert. You will need to make a very simple modification to it by cutting the top part of the flap of the card compartment and then flattening it (see photo) - this makes the spot a little longer without compromising anything.

The cardboard cauldrons included in the game aren't bad, but I figured over the long run they'd get worn out or broken. The 3d printed ones that Mnemic designed ( https://www.printables.com/model/165983-cauldron-for-whirling-witchcraft ) are really nice and fit in the original organizer compartments.

I was originally looking at ClixAccessories bit boxes ( https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5078528 ), but I noticed that the cubes are really packed into each box. I've seen similar designs before, and when you do that, it ends up making it pretty difficult to get the cubes out while playing. I also ideally wanted two bins for each color, so that the cubes could be within reach for all players when playing with 3+ players. After a bunch of measuring and playing around with different sized bins, I realized that I could actually fit 3 layers of bins, while still keeping them long enough to not be too packed (to keep it easier to get cubes out while playing). That gave me enough bins to have two for each color, except black and white; but there are fewer cubes for those colors and are less commonly used, so I made that compromise. I thought about putting in little handles to help with picking up the boxes (like I did for my Furnace insert at https://www.printables.com/model/87191-furnace-board-game-organizer-trays ), but realized that it wasn't necessary here because you can pick up two boxes at a time via their shared wall (see photo).

The card box was really the trickiest part to design, but also very important. As-is, it was very difficult to take the cards out of the original compartment because there's not enough space to stick your fingers in - even so, there'd always be a few cards missed. I went through a lot of different ideas, including trying to put them sideways; but nothing was really working well. Eventually, I settled on the current approach, which is relatively simple. I used the ultimate box generator ( https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2594893 ) as a starting point to get a basic box with sliding lid; but then I cut out parts of the lid to allow for finger holes to pick up the whole stack without having to leave much space around it. I also cut out parts of the box itself to match the style of the lid cutouts, and to use less plastic. I tried a few variants with even more of the box cut out, but those were either structurally too weak or had trouble holding onto the lid. I normally don't like to cut the original insert when doing something like this, as it's not undo-able; but there was just no other way to fit the card box in, and it was a very simple cut that doesn't affect anything other than to increase the size of that compartment slightly.

I also spent a while thinking about where to put the tokens. When I was working on the cube bit boxes, I also tried to squeeze in a box for the arcana tracker tokens; but there just wasn't any space. I also tried a few ideas of putting something on top of the card box, but I really needed the height, especially for sleeved cards. But one of my friends had a great suggestion of just putting them in the cauldrons! Plus, they can be separated per-player that way too.

Other than generating the box (OpenSCAD), everything was done with Tinkercad.
