Happy Halloween! Camp Grizzly was a hard game to get for quite a long time, but the Second Edition was released this year, and this is my first week playing it. I got the deluxe edition with the acrylic standees, wooden tokens, dual-layered Otis board, and a metal key. I've played the first three scenarios so far and plan to play more tonight.
Since the 2nd edition is so new, I had just two inserts to choose from, and I chose this insert. Here's a closer look at the print, its details, and why I love it.
Before I dive into the insert details, you may wonder where I got the campfire miniature. The LED campfire came from Etsy from McKeeMorology for $10.95. It flickers and brings such a thematic element to Camp Grizzly, placed in the center of the board, on the campfire position!
Inside This Post
What is Camp Grizzly
Camp Grizzly is a semi-cooperative survival horror game for 1 to 6 players. Counselors try to survive the night while getting stalked by Otis, a homicidal maniac in a bear mask. As he kills campers, cameos (special characters), and counselors, each kill raises the body count and, consequently, his deadliness. Fight back with a weapon if you have one or panic (take a wound and flee)!
Collect the objectives placed around the camp to trigger (and survive!) one of four Finales, finding weapons and maybe sneaking off for some foolin' around along the way.
Second Edition includes the full game and all the previous expansions, with a double-sided board and an all-new camp layout. It comes with a ton of acrylic standees, which is one of the reasons I chose this particular insert.
There is a new mode called Modern Murder Mode for playing with fewer than 6 players. You take some extra Otis Strikes cards out of the deck and start with the key off the board, to be entered on Otis's first body count. I set them on the Body Count Track to remind myself.
The Insert
The insert is the Camp Grizzly 2nd Edition Board Game insert by synnarc, uploaded to MakerWorld. The description is very detailed, so you'll know how much filament will be used and how to print the parts. There is one part that needs supports.
I have the Second Edition deluxe version, so that's what you're seeing here. My sleeved cards (not premium sleeves, though) fit, and the lid lifts a tiny bit.
A Closer Look
Here is how the insert fits in the box, from top layer to bottom.
Print Details
I used Atomic Filament Dark Cherry Red for most parts and component lids because it looked like blood, with a matte black for the component boxes. I used matching colors for the add-on expansions.
MakerWorld lists it at 16 plates, about 26 hours of printing, and 964 grams of filament. The notes even break down the filament by module in case you want to color-code.
I always appreciate it when an insert labels lids and containers. There was one issue with the "Behind the Bear" expansion container box; someone in the comments suggested enabling the 'thin wall' setting for that piece. I didn't see it until later, and it doesn't look great (see purple below), but the print did not fail.
Expansion Coverage
This insert organizes all 8 expansions that come with the game: Happy Campers, Jump the Bear, Behind the Bear, Keep Your Distance, Rated R, Spin the Bottle, Cheerleaders, and Family Matters. Each expansion gets its own container for its standees, tokens, and cards.
Why I Love this Camp Grizzly Insert
It takes a super messy box and turns it into an organized masterpiece, where I can just take out the base game and any expansions I'm playing with. I can take the main decks out to use on the table during play.
There's a spot for everything, and I can take the component containers and set them next to the game board during play, so tokens are easy to access.
I love the standees in this game, and each standee has its own spot. They slide into a spot in the container, all organized, from the base game counselors to the Cameo standees.
There is a clever stacking design for the expansion boxes to accommodate the standee bases that stick out from the thinner expansion boxes.
## Final Thoughts
If you have the Camp Grizzly Second Edition deluxe version, this insert is worth the print. A super messy box became an organized delight, and now I have more scenarios to play tonight!
How about you? Did you play a spooky game for Halloween? I'd love to hear about it!
