About the Game

“In the midst of chaos, there is also opportunity” – Sun Tzu. One of the key ideas Sun Tzu presented in his "Art of War" was that war was dynamic and constantly changing. Battles could be won by a general who can identify opportunities amidst the chaos and anticipate and adapt to changes as they occurred on the battlefield.

Amid the Chaos is a set of Hex based Wargames rules that will allow players to command armies on the tabletop from the period 3000 BC to approximately 1900 AD. This is accomplished by providing a set of Core Rules which can be combined with the Historical supplements in this series to provide a complete wargame for each period.

The rules have an innovative variable player turn mechanic as each side activates, and responds to activations as they take place, using their activation for the turn to do so. This provides for a very fluid turn sequence with all commanders continually involved in the game. All units will have an opportunity to activate every turn, although this activation may be limited by your opponent’s choices and your response to those choices.

Miniatures of any size and basing can be used to re-fight these battles using a grand tactical approach where the players themselves represent the great generals throughout the ages. As such these rules deal less with the individual heroics of the fighting man and more with command and morale than general unit attrition.
