About the Game
Birdwatching Club is a light card game about collecting birds and building habitats for them. Each bird card belongs to one of six bird types and can live in two of six landscape types; landscape cards and Field Guide cards provide the habitats.
On your turn you first collect birds — take one card from the face-up display of five, or take two and discard one card from your hand — and then build: place birds into a habitat of one of your bird communities, or play a landscape card together with a bird to open a new habitat. A habitat holds at most three birds, and a community spans up to two habitats.
After every player has taken a turn, players birdwatch in turn order. You may exchange one of your communities for a Field Guide card whose requirement it meets, such as two raptors, or one wader and one waterfowl. Most of the community's birds are discarded, but your guides let you keep a few birds of the types printed on them. Guides go to your reserve and score only after you play them as landscapes in a later turn: level-1 guides are worth 2 points and level-2 guides 4 points. A player who cannot take any guide takes a bird from the display instead. Achievement cards reward sets of played landscape types, and an optional module adds medals that players can take from each other.
When a player reaches 15 points during birdwatching, they may announce the end of the game; play continues for one more full round, and the player with the most points wins.
