About the Game

In Bonanza, players draft cards from a common pool to create the strongest poker hand.

One card is dealt to each player. Five cards are placed face-up to the table. In playing order, each player takes a face-up card from the displayed selection, then replaces the drawn card with a new card from the deck. This is done in turn order until each player has 7 cards in their hand. They then reveal their hands. The best 5 card poker hand wins. The game can be played in multiple rounds for score. With 1 to 4 players, it is recommended to play with a short 32 card deck (7 through Ace) instead of the standard 52 card deck.

Bonanza is in the same family as Sacramento and Nugget.

Played with a standard deck of cards, published in Reiner Knizia's book Blazing Aces!: A Fistful of Family Card Games.
