About the Game

“This, gentlemen,’ he said, ‘is our target, and our job is to flatten it, which will probably take two strikes at least. You will study this model daily, till you know it backwards. You have about two weeks.”—Lieutenant (A) Eric S. Rickman RNVR

Chokehold is a solitaire play simulation game on the largest British carrier operation of WWII against the Japanese occupied oil refinery complex at Pladjoe in the Dutch East Indies. In the game the active player takes on the role of the British airstrike commanders of Task Force 63 who must defeat the Japanese air defenses and inflict as much damage on the oil complex as possible.

Each turn represents about 20 minutes of time. Each air unit represents 10-12 aircraft. A Japanese Anti-Aircraft (AA) unit represents 6-8 guns.
