About the Game

Cuiquindi (from Old Norse: kvikindi, meaning "creature") is a drawless game for two players, Black and White. It is played on the hexes (cells) of an initially empty hexagonal board. The recommended board size is 6 hexes per side, although boards with 5 or 7 hexes per side are also valid. Each player has an unlimited supply of stones in their own color.

Definitions: A creature is a maximal set of connected stones of the same color. A single stone is also a creature. The size of a creature is the number of stones it contains.

Turns:Black plays first and then turns alternate. On your turn, perform the following actions in this order:

Move one of your stones through empty hexes. Every hex along its path, including the destination, must be adjacent to exactly one friendly creature. Place one of your stones on an empty hex in a straight line from the moved stone. The placement may not jump over stones, merge two or more friendly creatures, or be adjacent to the creature containing the moved stone.

If you cannot complete both actions in order, you must pass; otherwise, passing is not allowed.

End of the game:The game ends when a player has no legal move. At the end of the game, you score 1 point for each creature of your color. However, creatures adjacent to a larger enemy creature score no points. If the opposing creatures are the same size, the creature scores ½ point only if your largest creature is smaller than your opponent's largest creature.

To balance the game, before starting, the first player places one black creature of two adjacent stones and one white creature of two adjacent stones. The second player then chooses a color. This balancing method is called the adjacent two-stone pie rule.
