About the Game
Welcome to Epoch Struggle, a two player deckbuilding card game where you must duke it out with- uhhhh, yourself- to restore order to the universe.
In this game, three things are true. 1) You are a mad scientist. 2) You built a time machine. 3) You are about to have a very bad day. One moment you're in your lab, coordinates locked on your time machine, hand trembling over the switch. Wincing and averting your eyes, you press the comically large “Travel” button. In an instant, your reality is no more. Why does your lab look like the deck of a pirate ship? Why is there a man in an eyepatch screaming at you in words you don't recognize? Was that a cannonball that just grazed your ear?
In Epoch Struggle, you build a deck of cards and then remove those same cards from your deck to win.
Each player starts with a deck made mostly of weak cards. Each round, you travel to one Era (Past, Present, or Future) and use energy from your cards to buy new cards from that Era's Market. These cards are stronger- hey can increase your purchase power, disrupt your opponent, or affect which Eras players can travel to.
To win, you must Sync cards: move them from your hand into your Timelines. A Synced card is removed from your deck. Because Syncing removes cards from your deck, you may lose access to a powerful card, at the expense of bringing you closer to victory. On the flipside, some cards don’t do anything until they are Synced.
The key tension in this game every turn is this: will you use your card for its action, Sync it to progress a victory condition, or use its purchase power to buy more stuff?
