About the Game

Europa is a Reversi variant.

Materials 8x8 checkerboard 64 Othello disks

Play Board starts out empty.

One player plays black the other white.

Decide who goes first in any convenient manner, turns then alternate.

The game is played in two phases.

In the first phase on a turn, you must,

1) Place a friendly color disk in an empty space that is not orthogonally adjacent to an opponent's color disk (diagonally adjacent is fine) or

2) Pass.

The game enters the second phase after players pass consecutively.

So from now on, on a turn, either,

1) Place a disk of your color on an empty space or

2) Place a disk on an empty space so that it and another like color disk already on the board enclose a line of one or more disks of your opponent. Then flip the disks to your color. A line of enclosed disks may run horizontally, vertically or diagonally.

The game ends when the board is full.

Object The player with the most disks in his color on the board wins.
