In Ex Pagina, you take on the role of a student at a school of magic, studying spells, summoning magical creatures, and building your own personal book of knowledge.

Each player has their own Book, where they will place the cards they study throughout the game. But your Book is more than just a collection of cards: as the game progresses, the pages of your Book determine which parts of your knowledge you can put into action.

At the beginning of each turn, a page is revealed. All players then activate the cards they have placed on that page of their Book, creating a shared rhythm while allowing each player to develop their own unique combination of cards.

Three resources shape your path through the school of magic:

Knowledge allows you to acquire new cards and progressively access more powerful abilities. Mana is used to summon magical creatures and activate their unique effects. Prestige represents your standing within the school and determines your final score at the end of the game.

As you study more powerful cards and arrange them in your Book, you will need to decide not only what to learn, but also where to place it. The pages of your Book become the foundation of your strategy, determining when your knowledge will come to life.

In Ex Pagina, becoming the most prestigious student is not simply about learning the most powerful magic.

It is about building a Book that works together and knowing when to put its knowledge into practice.
