About the Game

Groven is based on each player playing as a village blacksmith. Players must craft items using resources they gather from expeditions to complete local jobs to gain respect from the village. The player to first reach 5 respect wins and is crowned the most respected blacksmith of the village.

The game sees players carrying out certain actions each turn around the table until each player has exhausted all of their available "time" tokens, the primary resource of the game. When all time tokens are spent, the game moves to the next round, or "days" as they are called in-game. Each day has a specific event that happens, either the job bulletin gets refreshed so players can get new jobs, or the traveling merchant opens up so that players can trade their crafted items from their forge for money. On the seventh day players may earn up to 1 respect if they win the smithing tourney, which is dictated by some dice rolls.

Players alternate between gathering resources by going on "expeditions" underground, managing their resources either by selling them at certain events or using them to craft items at their forge, combating monster underground or bandits on the surface, or building buildings that offer communal benefits to all players, but give respect to the one who built it. Players keep deciding on what actions to carry out to try and be the first to get 5 respect.
