About the Game

Hvað í pabbanum ert þú að gera? (roughly translated as “What on Earth Are You Doing, Dad?”) is an Icelandic family activity game designed to replace screen time with simple, playful moments together.

The game contains 190 activity cards, each leading to a short game or challenge that uses ordinary household items such as toilet paper rolls, spoons, shoehorns, plastic bottles, and other objects commonly found at home. Draw a card, gather the required items, follow the brief instructions in the accompanying booklet, and play.

There is no need for elaborate preparation or expensive equipment—the focus is on creativity, movement, laughter, and spending time together.

The game is intentionally non-competitive. Instead of trying to beat one another, families are encouraged to work together. Each completed activity earns the group one shared point. See how many points you can score before dinner, bedtime, or the end of your play session, and try to beat your previous best the next time you play.

The game also works as an “emergency activity deck.” Whenever children ask for screen time or say, “I’m bored,” simply shuffle the deck, draw a card, and enjoy one of 190 ready-to-play mini-games.

Created by Icelandic actor Arnar Dan Kristjánsson, the project was successfully crowdfunded through Karolinafund in 2021.
