About the Game

Julii is a game where you navigate the political intrigues of republican Rome as the head of one of four prominent families, the Julii, the Cornelii, the Sempronii and the Claudii.

These families are made up of senators, statesmen, and other members of Rome’s elite governing class who share the same gentes, that is claim descent from a common ancestor, and the same ambition: to rule the Roman Republic.

The objective of the game is to gain political supremacy over rival families. Ultimately, the family with the most social status, wealth, popularity, and provincial control is declared the winner. To gain supremacy you must ensure that statesmen affiliated with your family wage successful military campaigns, govern prosperous provinces, control key industries, and implement effective political reforms.

Julii is a 2-4 player game that starts in 264 BC at the outbreak of the 1st Punic War and ends with the turmoil and civil wars of the late 1st Century BC. A full game is played over 10 turns, with each turn representing approximately 20-25 years. Several scenarios are included introducing shorter game duration and modified winning conditions.
