About the Game

Matchbox is a cooperative deduction and memory game where you split into two teams and work together to take on increasingly trickier challenges! The game features nine matchboxes and over 200 cards with unique matchbox artwork.

During the first phase of a round, you place your team’s hand of cards into the card stands in the middle of the table. The other team will simultaneously place their hand of cards into the same stands, but in the opposite direction. Neither team will see what the other places.

Then, the cards will be covered, rearranged, flipped toward the other team, and unveiled with the help of the magic matchboxes. Now you have to find and recall your team’s cards using the other team’s cards as your guide!

How is this possible? Well, before you place or recall each card, you reveal an adjective card that says something like “smelly,” “expensive,” or “solid.”  You have to discuss together and select the noun that best fits the adjective (either from your hand in the first phase or from the other team’s cards in the second phase). Hopefully both teams are on the same wavelength, or you’re at risk of losing a life!

In the second phase, once you have decided which card you think the other team placed, you will point at it (without saying its name), and then you have to say the name of the card that the other team is looking at (the card that your team originally placed for the same adjective). If you point to the wrong card or recall the wrong card, the table loses a life! The other team must also recall their card or risk losing another life. The round is over after all the cards have been found and recalled. Survive three increasingly challenging rounds, and you all win!

Outside of trying to achieve a perfect score in the standard game, Matchbox features a huge heaping of levels to explore. These levels provide hotter challenges and more thrilling variety to keep your group coming back for repeat plays.
