About the Game

NOLA: 1895 is an action-point, worker placement game about the spectral hunters who battled the restless spirits haunting New Orleans at the end of the 19th century.

In the year 1895, the French Quarter is a place of mystery and unease. Strange happenings plague the streets, and rumors swirl of spirits too powerful for ordinary folk to handle. Called upon by desperate citizens, you — the players — take on the role of elite Spectral Hunters: investigators, mediums, and scholars tasked with vanquishing spirits, restoring balance, and securing your own reputation as the greatest hunter in the Bayou.

Armed with supplies like holy water, salt, and iron, players will take contracts to cleanse haunted houses, research supernatural entities, and gather essence from vanquished spirits. They must work the streets of the French Quarter, expand their influence through the placement of houses, and rise in fame through newspaper chronicles.

NOLA: 1895 is played over six rounds. Each round, players send their team of hunters across key locations — the Town Center, the Crescent City Chronicle, Secluded Lane, and more — taking actions to gather supplies, gain contracts, research spirits, and perform séances. Workers vary in strength, and essence can be spent to push actions even further. Success depends not just on vanquishing spirits, but also on seizing critical bonuses in the French Quarter and mastering the delicate balance of supplies, essence, and favors.

Victory comes to the hunter who can build their name into legend, gathering the most victory points through contracts, research breakthroughs, street dominance, and spectral essence — securing their place in the ghostly history of New Orleans.
