About the Game

In Octobuns, you serve hungry guests using fresh ingredients and luxury buns to fulfill their orders. Gather the right ingredients, turn them into delicious sandwiches, and complete the harbor guests’ orders this way. Just make sure the ingredients are served in the correct order — otherwise your guests won’t like them. For every completed order you earn coins, which will lead you to victory as the most successful octopus!

The goal of Octobuns is to complete orders as quickly as possible. As soon as someone has completed 5 orders, the game ends. On their turn, players may choose one of four different actions and perform it.

First, a player can take an ingredient from the market in the center of the table and add it to their bakery. If you take an ingredient that can be combined with one already in your bakery to make a sandwich, you may merge them and place the finished sandwich in your bakery in the spot where those ingredients were.

Another action is to attract one of the harbor guests to your side. This reserves the guest for you alone — other players can no longer serve them. This way, you can calmly gather all the ingredients you need without worrying that another player will claim the guest first.

Missing just one ingredient for an order and it’s not available in the market? You can instead choose to return one of your sandwiches and take that ingredient from the discard pile. Space in your bakery is limited, and sometimes too many ingredients and sandwiches may end up in your 3×3 grid. As a final action, you may move or remove ingredients in your bakery to free up space for the harbor guests’ orders.

Do you have the correct ingredients in the correct order in your bakery for an order? Then after performing your action on your turn, you may complete that order. You’ll earn coins for doing so, and often also receive a bonus action you can use later in the game. As soon as someone completes 5 orders, the game ends, and the player with the most coins wins!
