About the Game

Papercuts Trading is a competitive, strategy-driven card game themed around the psychology and unpredictability of financial markets. Players take on the role of traders navigating price movement, market sentiment, and unexpected events. The game blends real-world trading concepts—such as momentum, contrarian thinking, and news-driven volatility—into an accessible format that emphasizes decision-making under uncertainty rather than technical complexity.

Gameplay unfolds over a series of rounds where each player secretly commits to a market position—Buy, Sell, or Flat—based on limited information. One player acts as the Market Maker each round, revealing an Indication card that represents the current market direction or condition. After positions are revealed, outcomes are applied to each player’s score. Optional Event cards may be introduced to amplify results, simulating sudden news or external forces that reward correct positioning. Players must manage risk carefully, as losses can be mitigated with a limited-use Stop Loss card.

The core tension of the game comes from anticipating both the market and the intentions of other players. Since the Market Maker role rotates, each player alternates between influencing the market and reacting to it. This dynamic creates a layered strategy where timing, probability, and behavioral insight all play a role in success.

The objective is to grow your account by accumulating points through correct positioning and strategic risk management. Players who mismanage risk can be eliminated if their balance drops too low, while consistent performance leads to victory. The first player to reach the target profit level—or the last remaining trader—wins the game, earning the title of Top Trader.
