About the Game

Quaternion Trick is a compendium of four related (but different) trick-taking games. Each game centres around the same trick resolution mechanism inspired by the mathematical concept of the Quaternion.

Tricks resolve in the following way:

If all cards played share the same suit, the trick resolves as normal. Highest card wins. If two of the cards share the same suit, those two cards get discarded, and the leftover card wins. If all three cards are of a different suit, the entire trick annihilates and gets discarded.

The deck consists of 27 cards numbered -2 to 6 across the three suits i, j, and k.

Included in the game are rules for four different games:

A trick prediction game A point game A point prediction game A trick avoidance game
