About the Game
SS Thermopylae depicts the SS Wiking Division attempt to breakthrough to the Grozny oilfields in late September.
With the SS arrival, German confidence rose and fuel and ammo were given to the SS for this purpose. The 13th and 23rd Panzer Divsions had already tried with little success from across the Terek River. The battle would involve over 100 tanks on a narrow front defended by T-34, M3 Lee, M3 Stuart and Valentine tanks from the Allies. Grozny was just 20 miles away and the SS with AFVs from 13th Panzer totalled over 100 tanks, which equalled the Russians waiting along with 50 antitank guns.
It was a face off battle!
Game scale is 1 km a hex, AFV units are 5-6 tanks, other units are battalions. Each turn is one day. Over 250 counters and one 11x17" map.
