About the Game

This is a very rare and unusual Japanese game published during WWI. It uses traditional Shogi (Japanese chess) game pieces, but is designed to be played by eight players rather than the usual two.

The playing positions represent all of the major powers involved in the Great War: Germany, Austria-Hungary, France, Italy, Great Britain, the United States, Russia and Japan. Two countries are set up in each corner of the square board, but have unique entry spaces for their pieces.

Each player receives only four playing pieces, and the board is set up so that they must fight their way from their home country space around the board to their home flag space.
