About the Game

Tam cúc (三菊, "three chrysanthemums") is a traditional Vietnamese card game and deck of cards.

The deck consists of 32 cards, which are marked with the names of Chinese chess pieces in two colours (red & black).

The game is a trick-taking game but uses climbing-game like mechanics of set formation. A player can lead a single card, a pair (of the same suit), a sequence of the same suit (Commander-General-Elephant or Wagon-Cannon-Horse), or four or five soldiers of the same suit. The highest combination of the same type as what was lead wins the trick.
