About the Game

Zellij is a pen and paper solitaire game that consists on drawing a path on a given grid of points, by trying to cover as much of the grid as possible, under the following limitations:

The starting point must be random. From any point, a segment can be traced to only one adjacent point, either vertically, horizontally or diagonally. The path can never intersect itself. Every new segment can not be traced equally to the previous two. The trace must differ either in direction and/or orientation respect to the previous two (for example, a vertical segment traced from top to bottom is not equal to a vertical segment traced from bottom to top). Whenever no more legal moves are possible, the untouched points are counted. The smaller the number, the better the score.

For the grid, graph paper can be used, with the border of the grid being either a square or a squared rhombus. The size is arbitrary, though 7x7 is challenging enough to start. For own clarity, trace the border of the desired grid leaving a margin from it, so that all of the points of the desired grid are visible.

About the name: it's taken from the ancient zellij art style, to which the patterns that result from this game are remarkably similar.
