Forbidden Island Field Tile

Designer's Description

I so enjoyed the explanation provided by drathbun for his remix of this piece, that I chose to honor it by remixing it too.

This is a Remix Inception (mix of a mix of a mix). I started here:

https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3137415

drathbun had reworked a tile holder for Forbidden Island by and proceeded to explain the removal of excess parts in order to speed up printing and conserve filament. It printed wonderfully for me on the first go and I thought I could expound on the process and came up with this remix.

I opened the thingy into SketchUp and noticed that there was a lot of merging problems. After about an hour of cleaning up the lines and then another hour moving the ribs around, I was able to create this fun minimalist piece. I can not vouch for its integrity in a drop or abuse, but I was able to sheer off some weight.

I am able to print the four at a time .stl. However, I know not everyone can so, I included the single.

With the settings that I have set to Cura factory settings for Low Quality- 0.15mm, these are the end results.

That thing-author had encountered the same problem and had adjusted the design so that the bars were anchored on both sides. Success! I printed two sets of three of these without issues, but it took a long time. As I was looking at the tiles laid out on my table I said to myself, "Self, why do I need a completely solid bottom for these?" Myself answered, "I really don't, but I have no clue how to adjust it." But this is the modern era, and we have the Inter-Webz so I went to work. Not too long after, I had discovered TinkerCAD, had uploaded the adjusted tile and created some voids. My first attempt screwed up, so I went back to TinkerCAD and made an additional adjustment and then started printing. According to my software, the original fully filled tile holder requires roughly 12.5g of material. The new version with the voids requires just under 10g. I can now print 6 for the cost of 5, and I don't really think this will impact the game play in any way. So, enjoy! My first contribution to the Thingiverse community.
