Designer's Description

3D-printer? Oh you're referring to my board game upgrade machine.

This was a very last minute project and a classic example of how 3D-printing can get out of hand.

We're going on holiday tomorrow and will be brining a selection of small games, including Yahtzee. We decided not to bring the dice cup (none of us really use it) so I was tasked with printing something else to transport the dice. I offered a few selections (not designed by me), ranging from just dice to also including pencils and the score sheets. Then my mother (the reason I make everything) came up with her own specific lay out for everything because she didn't want to roll up the score sheets. I got to work, this is the result. I've almost fully transitioned to using openSCAD these days so if you have different sized pens, dice or scoresheets, don't worry, you can customise it.

The tray has four compartments:

  • one for the score block that can also be used for rolling the dice,
  • one on top for the dice
  • and two on the sides for pens or more dice (hello fellow dice goblin).
  • You can of course also set the basics like wall width, tolerance and even some extra space to allow for a felt insert in the lid.

I decided to add some dice on the lid, it's included in the print profile but not in the parametric model. This is the image I used by game-icons.net: https://www.svgrepo.com/svg/323133/rolling-dices

Enjoy your game!
