Star Trek Captain's Chair Reminder Tokens

Fifty crisp, color-coded reminders so you never miss another trigger.

If you've played Star Trek: Captain's Chair, you know the feeling: three ships in play, a fistful of abilities that fire at different moments, and the creeping suspicion you forgot one two turns ago. These tokens fix that. Drop one beside the card it belongs to and the table tells you at a glance what's live and when it goes off, no "wait, did I already resupply?"

Chunky enough to grab, small enough to place on the card, and legible from across the table. I place these tokens on the card art so they stand out more, but they aren't so large that you can't enjoy the art on most cards either.

Now if I can just figure out how to remember to use the tokens? 😀

Always forgetting that Picard has a REACTION ability when he gains an ally? Put a reaction token on the ally itself in the market to remind yourself to trigger that ability.

Forgetting to RESUPPLY or do CONTROL operations at the beginning of your turn? I frequently play solo and draw up my next hand of cards and lay them down before performing the bot's turn. I put tokens on top of my hand of cards so that when I come back to perform my turn, I don't forget.

That CLEAN-UP operation at the end of your turn? Put a token on your draw deck so you don't forget to perform it.

What about just being able to quickly look at your tableau covered in cards and determine which ones have ACTIVATION, RESUPPLY, END GAME, etc.? Place a token on the card so you can quickly identify cards without having to read the small text every time.

Forgetting to account for the fact that locations in the neutral zone with the END GAME trigger are worth 5 points + the printed value when determining where to send the bot's away teams? Stick a token on it to help.

Each token is a 2 mm color base + 1 mm of raised white text. One filament change per plate. You could always merge each token into an individual object and then do print by object as well so you can reduce the trips to the printer. All prints were done on a Bambu Lab A1.

Tested settings for the tokens (not tested with a .4 mm nozzle):

• 0.2 mm nozzle , 0.10 mm layer height
• Cool Plate SuperTack
• PLA throughout
• All prints were done on a Bambu Lab A1

NO AMS? Here's your pause.

• Layer 21 at .10 mm
• Layer 11 at .20 mm (untested, but assuming a .4 nozzle at Standard quality)

A baggie works. But if you'd rather your tokens didn't live in a crumpled ziplock:

• 50 individual slots , one per token
• Sets are stepped 5 mm apart so every label reads straight on or from an isometric angle (just like sitting in a…Captain's Chair?) no lifting tokens to find out what's underneath
• Tokens stand at 20.5 mm easy to pinch out, deep enough to stay put
• Tray 78 × 52 × 26 mm (~63 g PLA) · assembled with lid 82 × 56 × 48 mm (~23 g PETG)
• I have not tested the lid in PLA. PLA is more rigged and may prevent the lid from closing properly with the detent. I wanted the lid to be translucent and PETG was all I had in that color. It may work; test at your own risk.
• The lid doesn't hold with a death grip, but it took four rounds of printed test fits to land on, and it holds the loaded tray well enough. You'd have to shake it deliberately hard to break the hold, and in normal handling you're gripping the long sides anyway, which pins the lid in place regardless.

I printed this amazing insert from BoardGameMeta , so this case will not fit in my box…but I don't care. I will set the case on a shelf somewhere.

Caveats

• If you play this game two players, you will almost certainly need two sets of these. I only play solo and have played the game three times with these tokens. In that time, I increased the number of RESUPPLY and ACTIVATION tokens from 5 each to 10. I did find myself butting up against the five I had originally printed if I wanted them on my tableu as well as my hand, deck, etc. It's possible through more plays and wider distribution, that others will find the quantities insufficient on other token types.
• If there is one part that could still use refinement, it's the lid (and by necessity, that probably means the case as well as you frequently can't change one without the other). I am not a CAD designer and this is the first time I have ever done any kind of 3D design. The community is welcome to add their own variations on this case. If someone designs something better, I will probably use it myself as well.

The inspiration for this design came from Star Trek - Captain's Chair: Cloak Trait Token by Spinodal_Zeugma - Thingiverse . I did not use any part of this design when creating these, however.

AI Disclosure: As previously mentioned…I am not a CAD Designer. I did use an AI assistant to help design these. The tokens and case are generated by Python scripts. The AI helped me write and debug the code, and I made the calls on sizing, layout, and fit. Every version was printed and tested on my own A1 before it got here. The lid took four rounds of test prints to get right.
