This is an original design of weighted coins for Repos Production’s The Lord of the Rings: Duel for Middle-earth , intended to replace the original cardboard coins. This design omits the number 1 and adds weight, treating the coins more like small pieces of gold. This simple improvement makes the currency feel more substantial and the overall gameplay more refined.
Each coin is split into two halves. Each half is hollow, with space for a general-use metallic washer. By adding two washers per coin, each coin weighs approximately 2.6 g , similar in feel to a U.S. penny.
This print uses a standard 0.2 mm nozzle for finer detail.
For a total of 30 coins , you’ll need:
- 60 general-use washers , 12.9 mm outer diameter, 1 mm thickness
Add one washer to each half of the coin, then join the two halves using your preferred glue. Gluing the two washers together first may make assembly easier, as they will act as a pin for the two halves. If your washers are thicker, you can use just one washer per coin.
These coins have not been tested with the original game insert. However, they fit nicely with BoardGameMeta’s 3D-printed insert.
