Wir sind das volk! board game insert organizer
Print Profile 14h 329 g PLA
Plate Details (7)
This is a thematic insert for the board game "Wir sind das volk" (2014) from Histogame about East/West Germany history during the cold war. It also supports the 4-players expansion “2+2” so you can store everything in the main game box while keeping the pieces separate in different trays for either game mode.
⚠️ Note this organizer should work also with the 2023 edition of the game which basically shipped with both the base game and the expansion combined in the same base game box.
- No lid lift
- Supports sleeved cards
- Supports base game + expansion in base game box
- Game box can be stored horizontally or vertically
- Thematic insert with textured / decorative components
“Wir sind das volk” (We are the people) is similar to Twilight Struggle in some ways but more oriented to the economic side of history, where the attrition between West and East Germany is resolved around building their economy to drive the opponent to their side so to speak. East Germany, like the USSR in Twilight Struggle can win by attrition and will have a harder time as the events leading to 1989 and the fall of the Berlin wall unfold, while the West Germany player will struggle at the start but can build a better economic powerhouse and inspire protests and reform on the other side. The 2+2 (two plus two) expansion adds support for team play at 4 players where 2 other playes take the role of superpowers (the USA and the URSS) siding with the their respective German allies.
This insert is very simple, and yet I tried to customize it with my design philosophy to introduce artistic and thematic elements. All the card holder pieces feature a texture all around that's supposed to mimic concrete from the Berlin wall, reminiscent of the design of the game box itself. It's nice to display as-is but you could even weather it down further, add some graffiti, and so on.
This is a very easy model to print and requires no supports or post-print processing.
I have added some colored cues in the player bits trays that have a filament swap but you can remove the color from those pieces: they have a small recess around the colored shapes, which will print well even without being in a different color. It's just a subtle accent.
I highly recommend printing all the card holders in concrete-like filament: I have used Bambu Lab PLA matte Nardo Gray for this. I think it's very convincing. For the other trays you can go with any color you like really.
See pictures or watch video below, this should be straightforward.

Wir sind das Volk!: 2+2 2017
My 3D printed organize for Wir sind das Volk! is a simple one but with a small touch: some card trays have a texture to make them look like a bit Berlin wall pieces, kinda like the art depicted on the box - supports sleeved cards - allows vertical storage - fits the 2+2 expansion or the newer edition that combines base game + expansion - no lid lift
