Archipelago board game organizer insert
Print Profile 50h 55m 1,148 g PLA
Plate Details (16)
This is a modular board game insert for the board game Archipelago (2012). The organizer fits also the mini-expansion “War & Peace” (2014) that contains an extended set of evolution cards.
- ✅ Supports sleeved cards (I use thick Gamegenic sleeves)
- ✅ Allows vertical storage of the game box
- ✅ No lid lift
- ✅ Expansion fits base game box
- ⛵️ Highly thematic components that enhance gameplay
The game of Archipelago is a semi-cooperative game of resource management, bidding, commodity speculation, market manipulation. It sits at the crossroads between the genres of “euro” and “ameritrash” of its time but holds up rather well to the present date! The expansion adds some 4x elements with new cards variety and more take-that possibilities between players.
The game box comes with plenty of real estate that allowed me to create some really outstanding components, in particular:
- The evolution cards can be displayed on a harbor, complete with coastal tower, pier and dock!
- The player tray lids double as screen holders for the money and resources collected during the game.
- The various resources, money, exploration and building tiles are arranged on a circular tray, with sections that are stackable when stored.
The whole organizer is very simple to print. I added some color accents that can be disabled / ignored, but they're easy to print and require only few color swaps. Likewise the number of colors can be reduced if you don't want color-coded player trays and use the same color for all of them.
The box still has some room and I added two filler boxes to prevent the pieces from moving when transported. These are optional to print, but recommended. You could use them to store additional custom components as well: in the future I could offer miniatures for the buildings if there's enough demand for this insert.

…or use the images below for reference: the various trays & boxes in the game box should be easy.
1. Place the player trays on the right side of the box, and the harbor pieces as shown, on the left (below the objectives cards, place the archipelago tiles holder).
2. Place the sections of the action tray stacked on top of the player pieces trays. Place the harbor dock on top of the tower.
3. I have added in the print profile two filler boxes that are handy if you store the game vertically, otherwise they're optional.
4. Add the various game boards as shown and slide the player screens on the right next to the action tray pieces. Place the manuals and the action board on top at the very end.

This organizer for Archipelago is over the top... does it still count as an organizer when I had space for massive components like a full sized harbor with a coastal tower, docks and pier for the evolution cards? Comes also with a tray for the action board to fit all the resources, money (bank), plus the exploration tokens (in 3 piles) and building tokens. And of course player trays (whose lids also work as trays for the player resources/money and most importantly allow sliding in the player screen in place). Everything fits the box! Check out the model Makerworld: (free to download & print for personal use, selling it requires a commercial license) hope you enjoy this one!
