The Night Cage + Shrieking Hollow - Insert

I really like the atmosphere and theme of The Night Cage , but the original box storage becomes a bit of a challenge once you add the Shrieking Hollow expansion.

There are already some great inserts available, but I wanted something with a few specific requirements:

• Base game + Shrieking Hollow in one box
• Keep the candle tile holder assembled
• Significantly reduce setup and teardown time
• Keep all modules and components clearly organised
• Preserve the visual theme of the game

The assembled candle holder, together with the additional boards and components from the expansion, simply doesn't fit well into the original storage solution. The box was designed with a relatively small lid lift and wasn't really intended for storing the game with the candle holder assembled.

So I designed an insert around the way I actually want to store and play the game.

The insert consists of several modular trays:

Candle holder tray
A dedicated tray keeps the candle tile holder assembled and securely in place. The same tray also provides storage for all the spare tiles.

Two tile trays
One tray is dedicated to the base game tiles and one to the Shrieking Hollow tiles. Each has separated sections for the different tile types, making it much easier to find the right tiles during setup.

Setup tray
A dedicated setup tray holds the player materials and other components needed during game setup.

Key & Nerve token trays
Two trays with magnetic lids can be placed directly on the game board during play, keeping the keys and nerve tokens organised and readily accessible.

Each lid uses 6 × 2×6 mm hidden magnets .

Pathway module tray
A dedicated tray keeps all components for the Pathway module together.

Night Terror tray
Storage for the different Night Terror tiles and cards.

Additional module trays
Dedicated trays are included for the smaller boards and components from The Others module from the Shrieking Hollow expansion , and the Dirge module from the base game .

The insert is designed to fit the base game and Shrieking Hollow expansion together while allowing the candle tile holder to remain assembled.

Because of the assembled candle holder and the additional components, the finished insert requires a lid lift of approximately 12 cm . This is intentional and avoids having to dismantle the candle holder every time the game is put away.

Please note: the insert is designed for storage in the box with the lid lift, not for vertical storage .

The trays therefore use the game's icons, fonts and graphic elements wherever practical. The labels are also separated from the main printed parts. For the best results, I recommend switching from a 0.4 mm to a 0.2 mm nozzle for:

• Plate 10 – Tile holder labels
• Plate 11 – Night Terror Tiles

The smaller nozzle produces much better results for the fine icons and small text. The labels can then simply be glued into their designated positions.

The magnetic lids use 6 × 2×6 mm magnets each .

The magnets are embedded into the print , so you don't need to glue them in afterwards. A pause has been added to the print at the appropriate layer so you can insert the magnets during printing.

Lid lift: approximately 1 cm

Magnets: 2×6 mm, 6 per magnetic lid

Recommended nozzle: 0.2 mm for Plate 10 and Plate 11
