Terraforming Mars Insert - All expansions until 2026 in basegame box
Yeah, yeah, I know… yet another insert. There are now hundreds of inserts for Terraforming Mars. But even so, I wasn’t happy with any of them – none could **actually hold all the game components**! So, without further ado, I built my own insert that meets the following criteria:
- Sleeved cards: The insert can hold both sleeved and unsleeved cards. I tested it with a mix of thin sleeves and Paladin sleeves. The Paladin sleeves are 90 microns thick, which corresponds to medium-thick to thicker sleeves.
- Horizontal and vertical storage: Vertical storage shouldn’t be a problem; that’s how I store my games too. The only issue I’ve had is that the lid no longer fits quite tightly, so there’s always a bit of space where bits can move around. So, to be absolutely sure, I’d tie something around loose boxes – then everything will be secure as a rock :)
- Support for quick game set-up: A quick game set-up is guaranteed by the way the contents are organised. In addition, TWO resource trays can be used to distribute the necessary resources more effectively across the table.
- Covers all expansions released up to 2026 (excluding the single-player expansion). However, the exact contents covered by the insert are listed below.
- All-in-one box: The entire game contents can be stored in the base box, with the lid protruding by a truly minimal amount of 1–1.5 cm. In other words, the lid protrudes only very slightly (unfortunately, there was no other option, as the game boards take up so much vertical space).
In addition, I’ve created a display for the milestones and achievements so they can be viewed quickly.
All in all, I’m very happy with the insert because, even though it’s minimalist, it really does allow the entire game’s contents to be stored inside it :)

Yes, it is around 1-1,5cm of lid lift, as you can see in the image gallery. It was not possible to do different.
Yes, the insert supports both sleeved and unsleeved cards.
Sleeves I have use a mix of thin sleeves (unknown, cant remember the name) and Paladin sleeves. Infos for the paladin sleeves:
- Paladin Percival (63.5 x 89 mm) Card Sleeves (90 microns) and all the content fits without any problem.
Yes, that game can be stored either horizontally or vertically without anything moving around inside the box. Note that my lid was had become very loose on the box over time (had one of the firsts editions of the game), so storing it vertical lead to the lid opens up a bit and creating space for content to move inside the box. if you want to be sure, just use something around the box to hold it together :)
Yes, usually my inlays are large enough to be printed on a small printer. If larger parts are included, I offer the larger inlays in a clip-together format or divide them directly into smaller elements. The latter is always noted in the corresponding file name and here in the FAQs.
No, the insert can be printed completely without supports
FDM Print
0.4 Nozzle
Layer height 0.2mm
No Support
No Brim (in case of warping issues, use brim)
Print list, what do I have to print and in what quantity?
The xNUMBER extension indicates how often a part must be printed. For example, bread_and_wood_tray_lid_x2.stl must be printed exactly twice, whereas files without the _xNUMBER extension only need to be printed once (e.g. plunder_tiles_tray.stl).
